If only the world was a better place. If only people weren’t so, well people.

If only, everyone was healthy. If only we all had jobs. If only there was no war. If only there were no hungry starving people. If only the world was a fairer place. If only we could just get along with each other.

There seems no doubt that the world isn’t as great a place as it could be or should be. It’s not at all difficult to spot what’s wrong – not so easy to put it right. If it is ever to be put right we for sure should understand how wrong it is but do we dare to ask why it’s wrong?

It just is. Don’t ask why, it’s just the way it is. Something went off with a ‘big bang’ and we along with the ball of rock we inhabit are just the chance fall-out of that bang. So that’s it then? No rhyme, no reason just, well just nothing? The despair (and emptiness) of the atheist’s view gets us not one iota closer to answering the question why?

In stark contrast the bible says ‘in the beginning God’. He is the originator, who made the time, the space and the matter in which we live and move and have our being. Thankfully he has not left us with empty despair but has told us why things are the way they are.

It was all fine once. In fact better than fine – perfect, God made it that way. The bible tells us what went wrong and why – and it has much more to do with choice than chance.
